Mario Andretti
Ferrari 512S
1970 12 Hours of Sebring

In the second race against the Gulf 917 Porsches, Ferrari hoped the rough Sebring airport course would prove to be an equalizer. Initially, it was, as Andretti took his 512 into an immediate lead and held it until 9 pm. He would go on to victory in what he called “one of my most satisfying wins” in another 512. Here he is coming through the final turn before entering the Pit Straight. Note the overall condition of the bodywork – this is only the second race for this car and already it is showing its scars. I chuckle today when I see racecars from this era at concours, with their mirror-like finish and perfect details.
