NART Ferrari 312
1970 Sebring 12-hours

This was one of two 312 Ferraris entered by Luigi Chinetti’s NART and was very well placed before overheating put it out. The team had replaced the nose earlier in an attempt to solve the problem – thus the hastily painted number. Chinetti, the man with glasses and tie in the upper left background, was Ferrari’s North American distributor and winner of the marque’s first Le Mans in 1949 – the first of many. The man on the right, leaning over the nose, is Wayne Sparling, today a noted Ferrari authority but then a Florida HVAC metalworker Chinetti hired each year to help at Daytona and Sebring.
